As a person who used the Mega Man app for the first time, I had some difficulties and a hard time understanding the functionality of the platforms and enemies they offer. But as I have played with the application for a bit, I have started to gain an understanding of the items in the game. After returning to class, we have been assigned to playtest other classmate’s Mega Man level. And as I have play tested other player’s levels, they seem to have more mechanics than mine, like falling platforms when stepped on, areas where the players will have to constantly jump, and etc.

But after having four people playtest my game, I have seen what went right.

  • At the beginning of the level, there was a little jump that players had to do to get across and a ladder to let players know where they could climb to progress forward.

  • Players seemed to like some of the gadgets that the level offered. (Springs on the left)

  • Players see this level as average for difficulty when playing for the first time. Down below is an example because it requires the player to avoid the flames while attacking the enemy.

Now while I was spectating my playtesters, they all seem to have the same problem with the level. Which is:

  • In the beginning after the ladder, there were enemies that appeared, which has caused players to become unprepared since it was just the beginning of the level.

  • After progressing, the player comes across two-barrel enemies who were annoying to deal with for beginners. Which has caused a problem for my play testers.

  • Below the platform of the image above, the player also becomes unprepared when faced with a challenge with two skull enemies and bullets charging at them at once. I have now begun to see this be pretty irritating if it was my first time playing this level.

  • After players have struggled with this part of the level, they come across two enemies who can shield the player’s attacks when blocking and they can also throw pickaxes that go through platforms.


So far, these were the feedback I have received from my play testers and have some changes in mind. Firstly, I need to make sure that the enemies are not overpowering the players when they begin because I could see it as a problem for beginners. I also want to add more fans to make the players think in which direction they need to go in order to make the gameplay experience more. Playing other player’s games has made me want to add platforms that will break apart when standing on too long, which could add more challenge to my next level if I were to add it. 

Now as for the challenges, I felt like it was decently challenging because my play testers have given me feedback about which part of the level needs to be changed and which needs to be changed because of the huge wave of enemies. After hearing that, I felt like I could still keep the wave of enemies there, but add more platforms to make the players have more room to dodge and attack enemies from a distance.
